With no adverse indications from the national screening programme, I was shocked to be diagnosed with bowel cancer early in 2019. Surgery followed, some three months later. I joined the BCI UK PPG (we love our acronyms) in January 2020 and have chaired the group since the beginning of 2021. I continue to learn a great deal about this disease and its diagnosis and treatment. It is very encouraging to see the level of patient/public commitment and input to these important programmes. It is equally encouraging to see the appetite for such input from the programmes themselves.
