Barbara Hibbert
Barbara sadly passed away in January 2022. She remained a key part of our PPG until her death and her contributions are still reflected in the work we are doing.
I am a 63 year old woman who was diagnosed with Stage 4 bowel cancer in 2014. I was originally on a curative pathway and had surgery and chemo in 2014-15. Unfortunately I had a recurrence in 2016 which was thought to be inoperable, but after I responded well to chemo I had very extensive surgery – CRS and HIPEC – in London in 2019. Another recurrence followed in 2020, just as the pandemic struck and I was again deemed inoperable. I am now on a clinical trial at the Christie in Manchester. I want to provide a voice for people like me, living well with a dire prognosis, and am keen to be involved with any initiatives which will improve diagnosis and treatment. I have been involved with Bowel Cancer UK, giving awareness talks and also with Yorkshire Cancer Research.
