Variation in post-colonoscopy cancers across providers in the English NHS

Date

We have a new paper in the British Medical Journal! It compares risk-adjusted 3-year post-colonoscopy colorectal cancer (PCCRC) rates across all colonoscopy providers in England. Colonoscopies were divided into three time periods: 2005 to 2007, 2008 to 2010 and 2011 to 2013.

Please read the University of Leeds press release.

A plain language summary is available.

The BMJ have produced a visual summary: colonoscopy graphic.

A list of provider-level risk-adjusted 3-year PCCRC rates for colonoscopies undertaken in the English NHS between 2011 and 2013 is also available.

Information for colonoscopy providers

We are happy to assist providers who wish to review any PCCRC cases associated with their colonoscopy service. To start the process please email BCI@leeds.ac.uk.
