Acknowledging patients

We have a Data Sharing Contract (ODR1516_369) with Public Health England (PHE) and use de-personalised data for bowel cancer research. In recent months our Patient-Public Group has worked with PHE on the wording that goes into publications and reports to acknowledge the source of the data. This has produced a simple yet comprehensive acknowledgement:

“This work involves patient-level information collected by the NHS that has either been provided by, or derived from, patients as part of their care and support.

The data is collated, maintained and quality assured by the National Cancer Registration and Analysis Service, which is part of Public Health England (PHE). Access to the data was facilitated by the PHE Office for Data Release.”

We believe this appropriately acknowledges patients, without whom none of our research would be possible.
